About Counseling Ministry at Sequoyah:

Professional low cost counseling is provided as a ministry of Sequoyah Community Church to the community.

 

Fees are based on a sliding scale determined by your income. Staff Counselors are state licensed Marriage and Family Therapists.  The counseling office is located inside the main church building.  Click here for a google map to our facility.


We serve individuals, couples and families and are trained to address a variety of issues which may include:

Ken works from a family systems approach supplemented by cognitive-behavioral theory. He has ministered as a pastor and associate pastor and as the director of the Teen Challenge Men\'s Residential Program in Oakland. Currently he is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). He has worked as a probation officer and is now supervising an Alameda County CPS unit working with teens and young adults from the foster care and probation system.

Helen works from a cognitive-behavioral orientation supplemented by family systems and object relations theory. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She holds a Chemical Dependency Certificate and special training in incest issues, dissociative disorders, anxiety disorders, hypnosis and EMDR. She has taught workshops on depression, theology of anger and forgiveness. She teaches all the discipleship group studies curriculum at Oakland Teen Challenge. She developed and heads the Lay Ministry Training Program at Sequoyah and is an active part of the pastoral staff.
